One of my colleagues is trying to figure out if she can find any extant texts relating to women drama writers, especially non-European, before Hrosvita in the 10th c?
Any ideas?

Ask [livejournal.com profile] marysdress. Theater is what she got a Laurel for.

AFAIK there isn't. Hrosvitha von Gandersheim is credited with being the first female playwright. She didn't write anything original, but translated the works of Terrance into German.

At least that is what my Drama History class taught me.

Oh, I disagree about her lack of originality. And I was fascinated by her plays, which seem very typically to be dismissed on one ground or another-- most often, it would seem, on the incorrect ground that they're all about virginity.
