hand-reared baby?

This phrase showed up a couple of times in the museum web site. I can't figure it out. As opposed to what? If it said hand-fed, I'd assume it was contrasting the bottles with breast-fed, but my first thought was "as opposed to babies brought up by a machine?"
Thanks for any information; sorry if I'm missing something obvious.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they mean "hand-fed" as opposed to breastfed. Hand-reared is a term that is sometimes used when talking about animals that have to be fed by hand instead of from the mother.
