OK... just think if someone had mustard just lying around, hanging out in the living room, doing nothing... wouldn't you find a purpose for it? I thought so...
At least it wasn't the cat. When they find a use for a power cord, it doesn't always recover. (I had one that ate phone cables. Back in the day when you had to call the phone company to replace them. That was fun.)
