on another subject-- a unpaid plug

Dharma Trading Co. ( http://www.dharmatrading.com/ ) now stocks a variety of natural dyestuffs, including Alkanet, Madder, Cochineal, etc. and Mordants. I'll be emailing them to find out if these are mixed dyes, which I think they are. http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/eng/1893-AA.shtml
These are the real botanical/insectoid ingredients, per email from Dharma:
The Natural dyes are just the plain dyestuffs. Some of them are already ground for you, but things like the madder are still just the roots or bark that you have to chop up or pulverize yourself.

They've also added temporary tatoo-type body paint, and the following fabrics that bemuse me to their line:
• 55% Hemp/45% Organic Cotton Muslin 58"
• 60% Hemp/40% Silk Charmuese 57"
• 60% Hemp/40% Silk Textured Crepe 49"
• 58% Soy/37% Organic Cotton Jersey/5% Spandex 60"
• 100% Bamboo Fleece 60"
• 100% Bamboo Dobby 57" - coming soon!
• Cotton Bamboo Poplin 52" - coming soon!
•(They've carried various weights of Hemp cloth for years. I'm not sure I want to know what the Bamboo Dobby is-- it sounds like some S&M tool for HouseElves.)

Dharma Trading co is one of my addictions, though I don't generally dye things, because they have these great undyed cotton shifts, in which a 2XL is *my* size. :) http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/eng/3303-AA.shtml?lnav=clothing_women.html
They also have banner blanks, flour sack towels, aprons... as well as dyes, resists and all that.
Great stuff.

OMG. I hate you. I'm the least craft-skilled person in the universe and I just spent 15 minutes drooling on that site and trying to decide if I could afford to buy a few of the kits. Narf.

What a fabulously cool site. In all seriousness, when the sproglet is a bit older, we'll have to do some fabric painting or stamping or something together. She'd love that!

(Right now, I prefer paints that will wash off her...)

They also have fabulous, flowy long silk veils. Doubled over they're great. Or, unfolded for wrap around type.

Love mine.

Been drooling over samples, will have to order some stuff for ground fabrics for some embroidery plans....
