A DISH GARDEN!

Yes, I'm shouting.
The presenter of the first session I attended this morning had images from the altarpiece circa 1480, in the chapel of the Holy Trinity, donated by Elizabeth of Hapsburg... and, on the outer panels of the altarpiece, in a depiction of the Annunciation, there is...
a Dish Garden! yes, 3-4 separate plants in a low, wide bowl that appears to be made out of pottery. and...
NONE of them is a Lily as far as I can tell!
(There are very few depictions of multiple plants in a pot that I've been able to find, and when there are plants/flowers in Annunciation imagery, there is nearly always a lily-- lilies for virginity.)

I am soooooo jealous that you are there and I am not. I got to go one year and it was wonderful!

Can you tell what kind of plants ARE in there?

*Is envious, at a distance!*

I hope to get a copy of the photo that the presenter had for her talk of the Annunciation panel and get a good look.

There was some speculation that it might be a symbolic representation of a hortus conclusus.

When I find it I will be happy to share-- if the photographer is ok with that. Curiously, that particular pot is... ordinary looking. My first reaction was, i could buy that pot at lowe's. Take a look at Serena's pictures, I would love to get copies of some of the ones like the italian brazier-shaped footed pots...

The presenter is going to send me a copy of her photo, I hope. I'll keep looking for other pictures of the piece.

*hope*

I've seen several images of Potted Plants (in Italian paintings), but nothing that I'd consider a Dish Garden.

I must have this image.

You understand it is an imperative!!!

And for the good gentle that said that s/he could make a copy of the pots - take a gander at these and see if any tickle your fancy:

I know, I know. If she doesn't send it to me I shall cry. Of course, the Adoration of the Magi that I posted the hat pictures from? It's the panel right next to that-- but there's no picture of the Annunciation panel in the same book!

I SO want a copy of the image. Do share if you can!
