Link to a soapmaking document

By Rebecca the Contrary...

Also, here's the document (in Microsoft Word) that she sent me a link to.
http://www.geocities.com/bmcellis/SoapBook1.doc

She's collected a really large number of the soap recipes I've run across into a single document, which is helpful. As she says, be sure to give her credit if you use her work.

I have some doubts about the Pliny reference (soporific usually means 'causing sleep') but the rest seems pretty solid.

I'm lazy and haven't looked at the actual quote...
but saponification (sp?) means soap-like .... maybe SpellChecker 'corrected' the spelling??

Thank you for sharing! Very nice docs!

My first thought was also that SpellCheck may have corrected saponific to soporific, but I had never considered onions to be particularly saponific. Another possible original word was saporific (imparting a taste, which onions definitely do!).

And, while I thank you, I curse you Jadwiga. Sharing is wonderful, but now I have another "Oh! I want to play with that" to consider.

Well, I just checked the Google Books scan of the edition she quotes, and it's 'soporific' in there too, and in at least one other edition. *sigh*

That is my thought also. I have not had the chance to look over the link yet. I plan on doing so once I have the time. PRAYING that is soon. Rather hard to do anythign computer related when I only get 1/2 hour in the am while kids sleep and no time at night. Usually I find it not worth the battle with the boys :) However, this is one battle I will WIN!!! I will take a look at things, see hwo it all comes about and let you know what I think.
