"The book of life begins in a garden... and ends with revelations"

One of the things I came face to face with this weekend is that when I'm regularly in the company (in person or electronically) of those who practice one of my arts, I do that art more.
So, if I want others who participate in the art/science of herbalism to do so more, my best tactic is to be out there doing it myself and talking about it, either electronically or in person.
So, I'll be writing more and posting more here, and on SCA-Herbalists, about my experiences and experiments. Of course, I'll have to be DOING more for that, too. Watch this space and nag me if you don't see more postings!

Tomorrow I will go to the lumberyard and purchase Trex ( plastic deck material ) and build a raised bed for my garden.

This is a big step for me.

I will appreciate incentive.

Good luck! Good time of year to do it. If money is at all tight, you can also build them with 2x2s as corner posts and 2x10 or 2x11 boards as the walls - very fast to set up, also. A PHD helps a lot. I assume you have a plan though.

I attended an event this weekend and took a class on the Decorative Usages of Herbs and Flowers in Period.

A fair amount of the information related came from your webstite!! It seems that you are saying that others inspire you, but you are also an inspiration to others.

I'm never sure whether to be happy or scared when I hear this sort of thing. Thank you!

I understand this very well. Might be partly why I've been inactive of late. "Man delights in man" as the Havamal says. Anyway, go for it. You do excellent work, but you knew that (I said "knew," not "admitted" ;) )

Apparently there's going to be an SCA-Gardening list too, as you can read in this Merry Rose posting in Atlantia (http://seahorse.atlantia.sca.org/pipermail/atlantia/2006-February/019076.html).

I'm subscribed to Medieval Gardening list, but I haven't had the energy to tackle SCA-Gardening yet. It scares me a bit.

It may not be obvious, but I'm always interested in learning more about herbs and such. My mom's mother was into flowers and plants (president of the state Garden Club, respected judge with a worldwide rep, all that), and while I never got so much into growing flowers, when it came to plants you could actually *eat*, well... (yes I know there are edible flowers. I didn't know that back then.)

Miss B. is a fanatical adherent of nasturtiums, because they are edible. Given that she's such a picky eater, it's amusing. Then again, things she can eat that grow in the garden? She seems to be very enthused.
