Liam St. Liam's interview questions:
1. I can only read one, single source on things Slavic. What am I going to read?
OOh. Tough one, as there aren't any that I've found that are really comprehensive/outstanding. Probably _The Annals of Jan Dlugoz_ (that l has a slash through it), English translation. It was written in Poland in the 15th century but touches on other Slavic Countries-- but the biases are pretty obvious. The other two I'd recommend are by Norman Davies-- _Europe_ first, as it's extensive and also fun to read (I believe the poor editing/fact checking in the original edition has been fixed); or _God's Playground, A History of Poland_.

2. You have been hired by a newly established city to build the ultimate library. You have a huge budget and you are in charge. What's it going to be like in there when you are done?
It is going to a) be beautifully traditional in design, with really nice wood carving and high, fluted ceilings. Stained glass. Donors can have statues. Children and teen areas will have murals. b) have a massive electronic resources collection that is available to the city from outside the library via authorization; c) have extensive children's, science fiction, young adult, and self help sections d) be open from 10am-10pm (at least!), and Noon-10pm Sundays; e) have great staff, f) have a children's section that rival's WKids in its inviting design; g) have no special rules about how teens can behave; h) have lots of light, lots of comfy chairs, and at least three good programming spaces; i) have a cafe right outside the building; j) offer programs for children, elders, teens and adults. Might even have a tool library. The portablelibrary/bookmobile will visit local places like groceries to show people how they can use the library well and easily. We'll do publicity involving local radio stations, local TV. We'll have a special librarian for computer materials, especially searching for/finding electronic materials on computing questions for geeks, since libraries CANNOT get the print materials in fast enough and geeks are a big target population. i. lots of nice, thin-screen computers.

3. You have the power. You are the Demon Goddess of the SCA. What five edicts will you issue to make our game better.
Now, that's a hard one!
Am I to assume people would actually listen?
One: Move Corporate out of California and change the staffing somewhat. Institute direct voting for board members.
Two: Provide more information and help about actual history from Corporate to individual SCAdians
Three: officer training sessions/seminars for local and kingdom officers once a year.
Four: Knighthood becomes the Martial peerage.
Five: Make 'trying to be nice to other people' an SCA value.

4. Your persona just woke up on a typical morning. Describe the next hour.
Jadwiga wakes up in the morning along with the other waitingwomen who share the chamber. She washes her hands and face, rinses her mouth with cold water, and combs and dresses her hair. She puts on her underdress and other garments, then helps others get dressed. They would tidy the chamber and air the bedclothes. She goes down to the kitchen to check with the steward and bring up scented water for her patroness to wash in. Helps her patroness wash. She consults with the cook about what spices are needed for the day and any special guest's requirements, as her patroness doesn't have a physician, and she disburses whatever spices the cook needs for the day's work. At some point in the morning, she will hear mass. She will then attend briefly on her patroness to be sure there are no special needs, and go to the stillroom or garden as needed. [She will break her fast with bread, ale and meat around 10 am.]

5. Standard time-machine question No. 5.
Where would I go?
a. to Pennsylvania when the Germans were first moving in and it was one big forest, just to see what it was like.
b. To Hampton Court in its glory.
c. to the wedding of Jagiello and Jadwiga / coronation of Jagiello
d. To see Harry Truman inagurated
e. One of the peace marches of the 1960s.

Aeddies' interview questions:
1. What is the phonetic pronounciation of your SCA name?
YAD-vee-ga Zay-yench-kova

2. How did you come to specialize in herbs?
I lived on a farm as a kid. We had a big garden, but it was the family garden. When I was 11, we had to go to the garden center to buy plants instead of starting them ourselves...I was allowed to purchase some plants of my very own at the garden center, and I chose herbs. I had sage, parsley, chives, marigolds and thyme. That's how I started out.

When I was 16, I found a copy of Rosetta Clarkson's _Green Enchantment_ in the basement of someone I was babysitting for. The only book I ever outright stole, but I called them the next day and apologized and offered to buy it from them. I grew herbs and researched them happily through my high school and college years.

When I joined the SCA at the age of about 25, I was doing all kinds of research. I was still playing with herbs. I went to one herbal class in the East Kingdom taught by someone who ran an herb shop and who really had no idea of the period uses of herbs. So I started teaching, then formed a guild as a teacher-trap, looking for someone who could teach me...

3. What is the consistancy of the Egredouncye redaction on your webpage after cooking?
Stew-like. Thick liquid with meaty, nummy lumps. You can't really taste the onions individually though.

4. What tips would you have for a non-professional librarian in doing library research?
Most important: Suck up! Librarians are insecure as a profession and if you butter us up and appeal to our love of knowlege, you can get amazing results.
Also, be polite and do as much work as you can yourself. That includes searching library catalogs, etc.
Try scholar.google.com.
More tips, see http://www.lehigh.edu/~jahb/jadwiga/libraries.html

5. What other Art/Sci things do you do?
Dyeing colored eggs (and sometimes other things). Cooking, obviously. :) Making cordials, sometimes. Off and on I'm trying to learn to spin bast fibers. Research slavic stuff. Heraldry. Research more stuff. Try to recreate period service. I'm interested in a whole lot of stuff but I haven't had time to do much else but the herbal and the slavic and the A&S teaching, judging, etc. and cooking. I've promised myself that when I turn 40 I will get a lampworking kit and play with glass beads. I think that when I turn 37 I will concentrate on spinning bast fibers and gardening for a bit.
