I have heard mixed reports regarding the use of Tarragon in period. Did they use it for culinary applications? Did they use it at all? If so, where was it most common?
I have the same issue with oregano... first the mint that wouldn't grow in my friends garden, then the teasels (oh the teasels) and now the oregano... am now too scared to introduce comfrey!
Best herbs for planting a planter-box/bench. You know, the little benches where the top surface is sod/turf or some other plant? I remember hearing that certain herbs combine the tightly-packed growth, soft-to-sit-on, and smell nice-but-not-too-strong to make a perfect bench-top...
Oregano's from the mint family. You could always do what an acquaintance of mine did -- mow it. He had it growing level with the lawn, so he just mowed it along with the grass.
