Library Quote of the Day

Nobody but library people will truly understand this, but . . .

Librarianship has made the purchasing of information objtects into a fine, complex art form-- as well as a sport, with perhaps consortium agreements for electronic resources as the major league of that sport.

Sometimes, though I wonder if I'm working for the Cubs?

It could be worse. The NASA libraries each have deals with different providers, some with agency-wide access, some don't. In part, this is because each of the libraries is is funded through different parts of the budget. Still, we've got sitations like Goddard having a different release of our ILS from the rest of the agency, thanks to a deal they made before we adopted it agency-wide. Sheesh.
