Some days the reading is good and bad

I read this sentence in quoted material posted to someone else's blog. It made my blood run cold.
"The greatest immorality is for the United States to lose a war." -- Ralph Peters. ("12 myths of 21st century war." BTW, if one is to expose a myth, it helps to give facts from citeable sources. But.. Jeez, that's that wimpy academic thing, isn't it?) Even more terrifying, it was in the context of why it's ok to "fight as fiercely as our enemies". Down that path, the path of believing our victory in all wars is somehow a moral imperative, lies madness. (Also the British part in the war of 1812, while you're at it.)
Good
To cheer me up, I read Robin McKinley's blog post about dragging her Hellhounds through a piece of path that involves cows. "I try to avoid taking myself through fields with cattle, especially heifers, who believe they’re wolverines in some kind of funny cloven-hoofed under-fanged clown disguise." Well, yes, but I've never heard it put quite so well. http://robinmckinley.livejournal.com/18929.html?mode=reply
