SCA announcement:

My dear friends,

I take great joy in announcing that Lady Annys Wolf of Wharram Percy has
agreed to be my second apprentice in the study of the things herbal.
As we is already a grown and married woman (wife to Don Ian Raven of
Tadcaster) we have agreed that I am not responsible for her demeanor,
nor she for mine. She is already a skilled herbalist, whose areas of
interest include Anglo-Saxon medical practice as well as pre-modern
gynecology and obstetrics. Should anyone wish to teach her anything she
would gladly learn, I wish to make it clear that my permission is
already given, so no person needs to seek my permission.

Should any of my peers or anyone to whom these letters come see that I
should fail in my duties to assist and instruct my apprentice Annys Wolf
or her sister apprentice Isabella d'Allaines-le-Comte, please call me to
book at your earliest convenience.

I have taken Annys as my apprentice at the Landsknecht Vereidigung in the shire of Eisental on the festival of St. Lutgardis, 30 Sivan 5767; for a year and a day we will work together, and at the end of that time, if we both agree, a contract of apprenticeship shall be signed between us.

'For company she asked a girl called La Mothe to go with her, but for the sake of privacy and modesty she left her in a room nearby, and went on her own to the privy' (Navarre, 1984:156)
... The story goes on to relate that the lady gets covered in excrement due to the privy being covered in the stuff. Her shame at being discovered in such a besmirched state is related partly as being a function of being covered in that particular material, and partly because male members of her party discover her thus . . .
